Scene event for players from research, business, and politics strengthens Hamburg as a location for innovation

Garz & Fricke Group

Garz & Fricke is participating in this year's Hamburg Innovation Summit (HHIS). The HHIS, which will take place on May 20th, is the scene event platform for innovation transfer and builds bridges between research, business, politics and society. By networking visionaries, founders and future creators, the focus is on strengthening Hamburg as a location for innovation.

This year, the Summit is planned as a hybrid event for the first time, after being held in a completely digital format for the first time in 2020. The hybrid design means that a part of the event - the Innovator Breakfast and the Conference - will take place with a presence audience, as far as the Corona requirements allow. In addition, the event will be streamed online free of charge.

"The Hamburg Innovation Summit is one of the most important innovation events in Northern Germany," says Stefan Heczko, CEO of Garz & Fricke. "Innovative players from all industries of different company sizes meet here. We look forward to interesting discussions and a lively exchange with the event's participants."

Promoting the innovators of tomorrow is close to Garz & Fricke's heart. Thus, Garz & Fricke has been associated with the event format for years. For example, Manfred Garz, co-founder of Garz & Fricke GmbH, was a jury member at the HAMBURG INNOVATION AWARD ceremony in 2016. Also through cooperation with technical universities, several new and innovative production technologies have already been developed, tested and transferred to series production.

Since the company was founded in 1992, Garz & Fricke has been developing innovative products. For example, Garz & Fricke was one of the first manufacturers to interconnect automation controls. Starting with alarm systems for vending machines, the company developed into a leading supplier of complete control systems. The company first replaced old, very simple vending machine controls with Single Board Computers (SBCs), and finally with ready-to-install Garz & Fricke Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs). In the meantime, the HMI replaces the former control system and takes over the graphical user navigation, the management of the products, the control of the transactions and the communication of the machine with the outside world. Garz & Fricke's products now also solve the central control and user interaction via high-quality and robust touch panel operating units.

With the software solution G&F Connect, Garz & Fricke offered a central solution for instant error reporting and remote maintenance long before the terms IoT or cloud were invented. In a service portal, customers are thereby provided with up-to-date inventory information, flexible route planning, more effective filling and thus maximum transparency.

In addition, Garz & Fricke develops payment systems especially for outdoor vending machines. With the innovative KarL4, Garz & Fricke became a terminal manufacturer approved by the German banking industry last year. The contactless payment terminal for the girocard meets requirements such as integrated age verification, low energy consumption and vandalism resistance. Since the product launch, Garz & Fricke products are now already represented by a five-digit number of terminals throughout Germany.

At the production site in Hamburg-Harburg, Garz & Fricke uses modern equipment to manufacture its devices. These include a state-of-the-art SMD line, robot technology for quality control and coating of the printed circuit boards. These include a state-of-the-art SMD line, robot technology for quality control and coating of the printed circuit boards. The new company headquarters and production site is located at the Innovation Campus of the Technical University of Hamburg and in the direct proximity of the Hamburg-Harburg train station comprises service and production areas as well as offices with a total size of 8,000 square meters including new laboratory areas. The production hall, which has been finished in 2019, has a clear material flow structure and a new SMD assembly system and is prepared for further growth so that it will be possible to react flexibly to new customer orders and high production volumes in the future.
